Luoma et al. Journal of Psychoactive Drugs 2024
Design: A survey of 16 Oregon psilocybin facilitator training programs and 106 facilitator students between July and November 2023, to gain insights into Oregon’s early psilocybin service providers.
Key Findings:
-
Training Programs: Psilocybin facilitator training programs charged an average $9,359 in tuition. Half offered diversity scholarships for underrepresented groups.
-
Facilitator Characteristics: The facilitators (106 participants) were relatively diverse. Many held healthcare licenses. Most reported that training expenses were a moderate-to-severe financial strain. They planned to charge an average of $1,388 per psilocybin session and often reported wanting to focus on clients’ trauma, mental health disorders, consciousness exploration, and spirituality.
-
Ongoing Training Needs: Facilitators highlighted the need for continuous training opportunities to enhance their skills and effectiveness.
The Takeaway: Oregon’s early psilocybin facilitator workforce felt prepared to offer psilocybin services and seek ongoing opportunities for training and support.
